Citizenship Requirements

Proof of US Citizenship or
Legal Resident Alien Status
Required from Individuals Applying for a
Class "G" Statewide Firearm License or a
Class "K" Firearms Instructor License

Section 493.6106(1)(f), Florida Statutes, and Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 922, require an individual seeking Class "G" or "K" licensure to be either a citizen or a legal resident alien of the United States.

Requirements for U.S. Citizens
New applications for these license classes must be accompanied by a copy of a birth certificate, passport, or other official document verifying citizenship by birth or naturalization.

Requirements for Non U.S. Citizens
New applications for Class "G" or "K" licenses must be accompanied by a legible copy of the front and back of his/her valid permanent resident alien card issued by the USCIS (formerly INS form I-551) and proof that he/she has resided in the state of residence as shown on the application for at least 90 consecutive days prior to the date the application is submitted. The Division of Licensing will accept copies of utility bills, credit card statements, insurance invoices, or other similar documentation that includes applicant’s name and address as proof of the 90-day minimum residency requirement.
